Hi Andy,
In doing some flexing of the Equipe 10 skate skis, Warm, we've noticed a fairly significant amount of tip splay. Is this intentional, or should we be concerned. I know this is intentional in some wet or soft snow classic skis, but haven't heard it was something that is being incorporated into the skate. Please advise.
Thanks,
Alaska Mountaineering & Hiking
Thanks for the question. Yes, the Salomon Equipe 10 warm is designed to have this tip splay - a positive attribute. With warm snow this will reduce suction between skis and wet snow. Designing tip splay into the warm skate skis reduces suction thus increasing skis speed. On the Salomon Equipe 10 Cold ski we do not have tip splay to keep pressureon the cold snow the longest to develop a thin water film better.
Andy Gerlach
Note: Tip splay is seen when you put two skate skis together at their base, and apply force with your hands. If there is a visible split at the tip of the skis, they are said to have 'tip splay'. This has been a very important tool for the Factory Team to determine if a pair of skis is going to work best in cold, firm snow or in warm, soft snow. | No Time Is A The Best Time For Smart Food |
By Abby Larson, M.S., CSCC
No time, got no time for steamed broccoli, takes too long to wash, cut, cook, and goodness knows, chew! I’ll just grab the package of cookies….. Sound familiar? I fall into the trap too. But the consequences of poor nutrition are both acute and chronic.
What is good nutrition? It’s easy and basic and you already know it: include a variety of fruits and vegetables in your diet, eat lots of whole grains, and choose low-fat dairy and protein sources. Good nutrition also means limiting your consumption of packaged and processed foods, these foods include: chips, crackers, cookies, candy bars, TV dinners, fast foods, and many deli foods. It’s unfortunate that our society has made it so easy to eat so poorly…….
With some practice and forethought, eating healthfully can be convenient as well as relatively economical. The following are some easy meals that will help you to boost your intake of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean sources of protein.
Energy Bars ala Abby
3 cups rolled oats
1-cup granola (choose a variety without hydrogenated oils or high fructose corn syrup)
½ sliced almonds
¼ cup peanut butter
¼ cup vegetable oil
2 eggs
1-cup dried fruit (small bits, any variety)
1-cup honey
½ cup nonfat dry milk
2 tsp vanilla
1 tsp salt
For chocolate Energy Bars ala Abby add 1/3 cup cocoa powder and reduce nonfat dry milk to 1/3 cup
Heat oven to 350. Prepare a shallow oven tray or cookie sheet with waxed paper (spray the paper with cooking spray). Combine oats, granola, nuts and dried fruit in a bowl then mix in eggs and nonfat dry milk.
Place vanilla, honey, oil, peanut butter, and salt in pan and simmer for 3 minutes. Combine all ingredients into the bowl and mix well. Press mixture into a 9 x 12 baking pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, after cooking gently mark indentations for the bars and then allow them to harden for 30 minutes or longer.
We're so happy that Abby has provided us with several of her own recipes in the articles she has prepared for SkiPost. Stay tuned, and you will read all of them during the course of the season. If you have questions, please write to weanswer@skipost.com. |
